While Amazon is known for its extensive online marketplace, there is a range of products and subsidiaries Amazon has acquired and developed to enhance their outreach to customers.

Amazon primarily manages its supply chain in-house, overseeing everything from packaging to delivery, while relying on third-party contracts for last-mile delivery. This business model–driven by extensive economies of scale–incentivizes sellers to utilize Amazon's services to reduce the risks and capital costs of handling deliveries themselves.

Role and Contributions

Business Analysts (BAs) are positioned at the end of the data stream. As a BA, the key objective to convert data insights into actionable business decisions. BAs are responsible for identifying business needs, proposing a solution/visual, and manipulating data using software tools to find the desired outputs. The hierarchical structure was beneficial for cross-team collaboration. I was part of the Long-term Planning and Risk team but actively collaborated with the Economics Decision Science and Workforce Staffing teams, while seeking advices from SME’s across the organization, within and outside EMEA. My team focuses on mitigating long-term supply chain risks. I contributed to: 1) optimizing costs across regions, and 2) analyzing trends to ensure a seamless response to consumer demand over time. The design process I used for the projects were in the following order: problem modeling, data preparation, and data visualization, with an emphasis on working backwards. Each stages required unique skills and many learning opportunities. My journey at Amazon has exposed me to the world of big data and equipped me with the technical prowess needed to define problems, explore multiple solutions, and effectively communicate across teams.
