Huawei

As the Product Manager for Huawei's StorySign 2.0 app, my role was multi-faceted, encompassing design engineering and managerial leadership. I spearheaded the development of the next version of the app, which focused on automatic AI translation from English to British Sign Language (BSL). My strategic oversight in project management was crucial in aligning the project with its overarching objectives, ensuring timely progress throughout.

One of my most significant contributions was in cost reduction. I was able to cut costs for procuring a dataset to train the AI by 95% through effective negotiation with suppliers, identifying cheaper technological alternatives without compromising quality, and strategic scoping.

During my internship, we produced a successful first-stage demo that showcased the AI technology's potential. This demo serves as a foundation for future development. I also managed collaborations with 11 organisations, setting the stage for multi-disciplinary input and future advancements. My ability to document progress and plans effectively has set a roadmap for the next development phase.

My work has had both immediate and long-term implications. Internally, it has streamlined the project's timeline, and externally, it has fortified Huawei Cloud's positioning as an innovator in assistive technology solutions.
