DEXET is an independent engineering and consulting firm based in London. They specialise in advanced composites and mechanical design - broadly in the automotive and motorsport sectors, as well as the mobility sector. The company is young, and has a small team working in person in Battersea. They work on both client projects and research and development projects, across the board in the design and engineering process.

Role and Contributions

As a Junior Associate at DEXET Technologies, my primary revolved around CAD part design. I used CATIA V5 and 3D Experience software and improved significantly on my surfacing skills, learning a lot from my colleagues.

My two key projects were: An Ergo buck or a light urban vehicle as part of an R&D project, and bracketry work on a larger vehicle for a client. The Ergo Buck task involved the ideation, design and CAD building of an adjustable, looks-like, rig for a vehicle, to be used for user testing. I completed this project independently over the first half of the placement, with frequent feedback sessions from the team. This required a high level of design creativity and critical problem solving. After a design was finalised, I generated all part and assembly drawings. In the latter half of the placement, I designed a lot of bracketry, often with complex surfacing, for different manufacturing methods. For example: Vac-forming, 3D printing and bent sheet metal. I also had teams meetings with suppliers and experts to ensure my designs were agreeable for manufacturing.
