Espen Oeino International is one of the world’s leading companies for yacht design. It specialises in the designs of yachts and their general arrangements. Their activity is based on the custom creation of yachts, yacht refitting, and limited edition projects. My role was to assist designers, architects, and project managers in different tasks such as conducting a CFD analysis, drafting up general arrangement plans, and researching how to better render scenes.

Role and Contributions

The first task I was assigned was to conduct a CFD analysis of an underwater vessel to calculate the drag coefficient and drag force and better understand the design of the vessel. The latter was done using Solidworks and my Thermofluids skills acquired in year 2.

Throughout most of my time, I was helping the initial design team and working on different general arrangement plans. In total, I have worked on five different projects. My main responsibility was to attend design reviews and make the required changes to the plan which were instructed to me by my manager. I used Microstation, which I was able to learn quickly thanks to my previous knowledge of design software.

Moreover, I was asked, by a project manager of the build design team, to research and install a plug-in called “Cesium for Unreal Engine” into Unreal Engines, which is a software that is used to create 3D renders for clients. The scope of this project was to implement the Google Maps API feature which would load the full Google Maps map into the scene. This allowed us to create new scenes with new locations as backgrounds that were real and relatable to the client.
