DEXA is a software development company based in South Korea. They undertake diverse projects, ranging from POS consulting and development to ERP system implementation and distribution, self-checkout (SCO) solutions, sales connection, interface development and more. Their complementary after-service features monitoring, technology support, on-site installation, and system education services. During the placement, I supported the ongoing Lotte Korea Seven Eleven convenience store system project. As a design engineer intern in the POS team, I contributed to the development of the UX/UI of the Seven Eleven POS machine.

Role and Contributions

I contributed to the development of UX/UI of the POS machines and facilitated communication between the POS and Design team. Employing human-centred design thinking, I analysed insights and opportunities based on user and market research. I identified the need for a more intuitive interface to reduce the time clerks need to learn the machine, given the prevalence of part-time clerks in Korea. During the ideation stage, I employed brainstorming techniques, sketching and other creative methods to encourage divergent thinking, both personally and within the team.I utilised Adobe XD to develop design solutions. My responsibility spanned from designing overall layout to intricate icons, requiring both holistic and detail-oriented perspectives. I introduced evaluation techniques (e.g., concept scoring, feasibility analysis) and approached stakeholders for feedback as iterations are crucial to achieve ideal outcomes.I was also responsible for implementing the design improvements identified by the POS team during development. This meant organising weekly meetings, updating on the progress and negotiating terms between teams to produce the desired design within the limited time. I also recorded these design decisions, processes and iterations both visually and verbally for tracking when necessary.
